I Tried the Skin-Perfecting Foundation Balm That Went Viral on TikTok – and It's Worth the Hype

Once again, TikTok has found us an incredibly effective makeup product. Since last week, the app has been buzzing with the discovery of the newly launched KVD Beauty Good Apple Skin-Perfecting Foundation Balm thanks to creators Mikayla Nogueira, Glamzilla, and Meghan Grant.

The viral videos — which received over 20 million views collectively — showcased the creators trying the product and sharing their thoughts, ultimately causing the foundation balm to sell out twice (on KVD Beauty's own site and at retailers like Sephora and Ulta). After trying the balm for the first time, Nogueira remarked, "It's so full coverage, I don't know how to explain this but it's like extremely full coverage but very light. I don't feel like anything's on my face," while Grant said: "Are y'all seeing this or no? Hyperpigmentation where, ma'am?"

It seems like all of TikTok's makeup enthusiasts have nothing but praise for the foundation, so I decided to put it to the test — and I'm here to tell you that it's worth the hype. With just one swipe of the product, I was able to cover my current rosacea, redness, and maskne. As mentioned by Nogueira, the texture is extremely lightweight — almost nonexistent — but buildable, covering up blemishes, scars, and uneven skin tone extremely effectively.

The vegan, non-comedogenic formula is super creamy and blends really well, too. In fact, I simply swiped it on with a foundation brush and watched it melt into my skin — no additional tools or heavy blending needed. My skin looked like an IRL Instagram filter, and it stayed that way until I took it off later that night. According to the brand, the foundation balm is designed to have a "fresh matte" finish, and I certainly agree; it wasn't dewy, but slightly glassy while still remaining matte. Some reviewers warned it can be drying (seemingly the only complaint), so if you have dry or combination skin, be sure to start off with a good moisturizer before applying, like I did.

Take one look at the foundation's formula, and you'll understand why it's gone viral. Its star ingredients are apple extract (hence the name) and sodium hyaluronate — a form of the anti-aging superstar hyaluronic acid that's reportedly just as hydrating — to make your skin feel weightless yet moisturized. The smooth consistency and mattifying finish can also help minimize the appearance of pores. Plus, it comes in 40 shades, so finding your perfect match will be a breeze.

While almost all shades are still sold out at Sephora — and many at Ulta — the good news is that most of them are available to shop directly on KVD Vegan Beauty's site right now. If your shade is in stock, we'd recommend making your purchase ASAP before it's gone.
