Chris Hughes has opened up on his relationship with Jesy Nelson and discussed the night of the NTAs, where he got into a brawl.

He was pictured fighting with a photographer who he accused of calling him a "c**t", and later apologised to Jesy for taking the limelight off her win.

Her BBC documentary Odd One Out had scooped the Factual Entertainment Programme Award, and they were leaving the venue when the fight ensued.

Chris has revealed he believes people are out to get him, and said online abuse is tough to handle.

He told The Sun 's TV magazine: "We live in a world where people just want to destroy you. It’s a nightmare."

But he focused on the positives from the night, adding: "Jesy spoke really well that night – she’s a very attractive crier!

"She looks very pretty when she cries."

He explained the smitten couple prefer to avoid showbiz parties or clubs, favouring country walks or watching telly on the sofa together.

Despite being one of the most famous couples in the country, the pair like to live their lives as normally as possible, Chris said.

He added they are not "big drinkers", preferring to go on bike rides together.

In a video of the imfamous brawl in January, obtained the by Mail Online : Chris is heard on camera insisting: "I'm a nice guy from the Cotswolds. I'm not a p***y. I'm not a c**t" during the scrap.

The incident occurred in front of the lobby of the InterContinental Hotel, near the O2 Arena where the awards were held on Tuesday night.

While it's difficult to gauge the initial jibe that sparked the row, Chris can be seen throwing his bags down in the street before attacking the photographer in the footage.

"Why am I a c**t? You don't know me. Tell me. You have no right. F**k this, you don't know me. You don't know me. Don't call someone a c**t you don't know. You don't know me, why am I?…" Chris bellows.

Chris has since apologised for his behaviour.

He wrote on social media: 'I want to address last night's altercation. I was having an amazing night celebrating the award my girlfriend deservedly won…

"After coming out of our hotel a particular paparazzi decided to repeatedly call me a name I wouldn't call my worst enemy, and physically try and start an altercation. As everyone can see I retaliated back badly – which I regret…

"I'm human. No different to anyone else's however I want to make everyone aware this was only in self defense. I hope people I care about including my followers, family and friends can understand and forgive me.

"This night was about Jesy's win and I am sorry if I distracted anyone from this. Ultimately, I'm the proudest boyfriend ever and want to congratulate my amazing girlfriend for a deserving win. I am proud of you."
