Civic leaders want to formally welcome the 18-year-old US Open winner back to the South London suburb where she honed her game.

Emma is still in the US and parents Ian and Renee’s home in a quiet cul-de-sac was still decorated with sparkling “good luck” banners.

Colin Smith, leader of Bromley Borough Council, said: “We are attempting to make contact with Emma’s team in order to discuss the sort of welcome back she would like.”

Emma’s old school Bickley Primary held a special assembly, while at her former tennis club Parklangley in Beckenham, her ex-coach Harry Bushnell said: “There will be more to come now.

“She was born to do it.”
