The wheels are in full motion for Dancing on Ice to return to our screens in January. However, ok.co.uk can exclusively reveal that the show’s pro skaters were worried about the added pressures of being partnered with Rebekah Vardy ahead of the series launch.

The 38-year-old model, TV personality and WAG is currently in the throes of a court battle with Coleen Rooney, something which will undoubtedly throw Rebecca and her partner into more of the limelight when the show begins.

“The skaters were all worried about being partnered with Rebekah because they know it will be extra pressure and extra stress with the upcoming court case,” our source revealed.

Coleen, wife of Derby County footballer Wayne Rooney, accused Rebekah of leaking stories about her to the media back in October. With the £1million High Court libel set to take place from November, the press’s eyes are going to be firmly set on Rebekah in the coming months.

And with the competition demanding a lot of rehearsal time and complete focus, it’s clear the pros all want their partners to be 100% focussed on the competition. “They all take it seriously and want to win,” the source added.

“It’s not the fact the skaters don’t like her. It can all just get out of hand a bit and whoever was going to get Rebekah knew there was going to be extra pressure and paps.”

Rebekah, wife of Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, revealed this morning on Instagram that her partner for the show would be Canadian ice dancer Andy Buchanan.

She captioned the cute snap, “please don’t drop me!” and gushed saying, “I’m so excited to be partnered with you and I’m ready for some hard work!”

But, in an ideal world, Rebekah would have preferred to be paired with gay pro-dancer Matt Evers, 44.

“Rebekah wanted Matt to avoid any love interest stories,” says the source. “Matt is a professional and one of the most popular skaters and he creates a lot of press anyway.”

Last year he formed half of the show’s first same-sex partnership alongside Steps singer Ian “H” Watkins. And Rebekah felt being partnered with him would mean she could focus solely on the training without having to dodge any romance rumours.

But everyone taking part in the show is obviously aware of the drama that comes with extra media attention.

“There was enough trouble last year with the press stories about Caprice being a diva and her changing partners,” the source recalled. “And drama does cause added pressure for the skaters.

“Rebecca openly says she enjoys the press attention,” our source continued, “But the professionals didn’t want that extra pressure on their backs.

“Rebekah knows that things like the Strictly curse generates press and thinks the press might generate a love interest. There’s nothing wrong in Rebekah’s marriage. She’s very supportive of Jamie and they have a lovely family.” The pair have three children together and three more from previous relationships – one from Jamie’s and two from Rebekah’s.
