Dominic Brunt, 52, has announced a new direction for his career after having played Emmerdale’s Paddy Kirk for the past 25 years. The star has confirmed his new project is directing the upcoming film, Wolf Manor.

The soap star took to Twitter to announce the new project with his 114,600 followers.

He wrote: “Thank you to @FrightFest for hosting our Leicester Square premier last night.

“An amazing evening. @wolfmanorfilm Feeling rancid on the 6am train to Leeds this morning but full of pride for our cast and crew.”

Wolf Manor was written by Joel Ferrari and Pete Wild. It stars James Fleet, from The Vicar of Dibley, and John Henshaw, from Early Doors.

During an interview previewing Emmerdale’s 50th anniversary plans, Dominic previously opened up on how he would feel if he were to be written out.

He said: “If I was to go tomorrow though, I wouldn’t complain because I’ve had 25 amazing years – but long may it continue.

“I absolutely love that job to pieces. I can’t explain to you what it means to me.”

He added: “I saw a picture the other day for the 25th anniversary and I’m in the picture, and I just think ‘oh my god, 25 years ago?’

“It feels like seven. Your life just flashes along so quickly, but I’ve been so lucky.”

Dominic also admitted in June that he fears his soap character Paddy could be axed by Emmerdale bosses.

The actor recently admitted he still worries that he’ll get cut each year when his contract is up.

Dominic revealed he was left “shaking and sick with fear”over the prospect of leaving.

He told The Mirror: “I’m a really big fan of [Emmerdale] and I’m very lucky. I’ve probably dodged a couple of bullets and I never ever take it for granted.

“When difficulties emerge on set I still get nervous. It’s a challenge. I don’t want to look like an idiot in front of six million people watching but I’m literally shaking and feeling a bit sick.”

The ITV favourite added he had suffered from “imposter syndrome” and fears he will eventually have to return to his previous job as a welder.

He added: “I still have that imposter syndrome, fearing I’ll get that tap on the shoulder and be told, ‘Dominic, we’ve found out you’re a welder – what are you doing here?’ I still feel like that.

“Every Christmas when the contract is up, I still think that’s probably it.”

Meanwhile, Dominic is also married to a fellow soap star who is an actress on a rival show.

Joanne Mitchell, 50, first joined Coronation Street in 2009 before returning again in 2019.
