The royal couple shared the happy news on May 6 via @SussexRoyal, their Instagram account that they launched on April 2.

In the caption, the proud parents wrote: “We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019. Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz.

“The Duchess and baby are both healthy and well, and the couple thank members of the public for their shared excitement and support during this very special time in their lives. More details will be shared in the forthcoming days.”

The couple also used their Instagram account to announce the name of their newborn son and share a photo of him meeting his paternal great-grandparents and getting and adoring gaze from maternal grandmother Doria Raglund.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are pleased to announce they have named their first born child:

Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor

This afternoon Their Royal Highnesses introduced Her Majesty The Queen to her eighth great-grandchild at Windsor Castle. The Duke of Edinburgh and The Duchess’ mother were also present for this special occasion.”

Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, left shortly after the baby’s birth for a three-day royal tour of Germany. “We couldn’t be more delighted at the news, and we’re looking forward to meeting the baby when we return,” Charles said.

Wednesday morning, a fan shared the new photos of the family of three with Camilla, who replied, “Thank you for showing this to me!”

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stepped out with their newborn son at St. George’s Hall in Windsor Castle (where they had their royal wedding reception!) on Wednesday, May 8, two days after welcoming the new addition to the royal family. Baby Archie is absolutely adorable from every angle.

Meghan was glowing as she stood beside Harry, who held their newborn son in his arms.

Asked what it’s like being a new mom, Meghan said: “It’s magic. It’s pretty amazing. I have the best two guys in the world, so I’m really happy.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s son may be just a couple of days old, but he’s already showing off parts of his personality.

“He has the sweetest temperament,” the proud new mom shared about her son. “He’s really calm.”

Harry then quipped, “I don’t know where he gets that from!”

“He’s just been a dream. It’s been a special couple of days,” Meghan added.

When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle introduced their new baby boy to the world on Wednesday, the moment made history: the baby is the first biracial heir in the royal family’s centuries-long history.

Unlike his royal cousins, Archie will not receive a royal title or a courtesy title, a royal source confirms.

Harry and Meghan were named the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on their wedding day, and it is traditional for the eldest son of a duke to eventually inherit his father’s title. Down the line, Archie could be given the secondary Sussex title, before inheriting the dukedom. Royal titles are decided by Queen Elizabeth.

Though Meghan and Harry have decided to forgo a royal title for their son, Archie will be the seventh in line of succession after Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis and Harry.

Meghan Markle chose London-based British designer Grace Wales Bonner to design her trench dress for today’s debut of Baby Sussex, PEOPLE confirms.

According to the Business of Fashion, Wales Bonner was born in southeast London to a Jamaican father and English mother. “Wales Bonner uses her mixed-race heritage as a key reference in her collections,” says the fashion site.

She also wore a meaningful Jennifer Meyer necklace with three turquoise stones and tan suede pumps.

Baby Sussex arrived at Wednesday’s photo call at St. George’s at Windsor in a wool G.H. Hurt & Son blanket and matching cap.

The new family of three stepped out at St. George’s Hall in Windsor Castle to share their baby joy with the world after deciding to keep the details of Archie’s birth private and forgo the traditional post-birth photos on the steps of the Lindo Wing.

Prince William and Kate Middleton welcomed all three of their children – Prince George, 5, Princess Charlotte, 3, and Prince Louis, 1 – in the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital and introduced each baby on the famous steps.
