The Gardeners’ World fan in question told the presenter he wasn’t needed on tonight’s show after the star introduced his adorable new puppy Ned. Monty Don, 67, took the adorable little pooch home last month, and he has been charming fans ever since.
Last week, Monty shared a picture of Ned playing with his other dog Nellie with his 292,400 Twitter followers.
He captioned the snap: “Ned makes his Gardeners’ World debut tomorrow night at 8pm.
“I believe there also might be a smattering of gardening involved too,” he added jokingly.
Soon afterward, a fan named Wendy cheekily wrote: “Monty, you can have the night off. We’ll just watch Ned for the rest of the programme.”
“I very much enjoyed Nedflix,” Heather added in reference to the adorable pup.
“How to stop a puppy trashing your garden would be a great feature for the show,” Toffer suggested.
While Libah commented: “Oh sweet. Love watching doggies garden lol. Holes where you don’t want them. Picking the plants.” (sic)
Lucy added: “Omg!!!! I can’t wait!!! He’s such a cutie!! Great Nell has taken to him… but you’d have to be made of stone not to!!
“I’m just sad [Gardeners’ World] is drawing to a close. Please keep posting photos of your beautiful pets, it really cheers me up.” (sic)
Monty is best known for his horticulture and broadcasting work, which has earned him an OBE.
However, the presenter’s fans also know him to be very close to his four-legged friends.
On his own website, he notes: “I have lived with dogs all my life and so it is absolutely natural to me that wherever I am in the garden I should be accompanied by a dog or two.

“It is their garden as much as mine or any other members of the family.”
He went on to praise his dogs’ treatment of his much-loved garden, writing: “Something that I take for granted is that, by and large, they do absolutely no damage and respect the garden completely.
“They (rarely) dig holes or crash through the flower beds.
“They do treat the long paths as bowling alleys down which they career in chase of the ball that we are obliged to throw, but it is harmless enough.”
Monty often posts cute updates of his other pets to Instagram, which include his other golden retriever Nell and Yorkshire Terrier Patti.
The star’s beloved dog Nigel died back in 2020, leaving fans heartbroken, as the pet had appeared alongside the BBC star on almost every episode of Gardeners’ World.
At Monty’s home, there is also a coppice that holds the graves and headstones of his old dogs, Beaufort, Red, Poppy and Barry – as well as his former cats Stimpy and Blue.
Gardeners’ World airs tonight at 8pm on BBC Two.
