Masterchef food critic Grace Dent has opened up about her allergies, suggesting that scoffing a common variety of seafood she’s obsessed with could be her ultimate downfall. Talking on a special episode of the podcast Where There’s A Will, There’s A Wake, titled Here Lies Grace Dent, the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star joked that there were a “few options” that could lead to her death.
“I am slightly allergic, if it’s possible to be slightly allergic, to scallops and I can’t stop b****y eating them!” she declared. “It’s always touch and go when I eat them, of whether it’s gonna be a delicious day or death by – and I don’t think there’s any shame in it because so many Plantagenet Kings died of it – rampant dysentery.”
She joked that she might one day have “explosive diarrheoa” after one of her Masterchef appearances and die right there and then. Asked to ponder other possible causes of a theoretical death, Grace bizarrely joked: “I sometimes think it would be quite nice to be strangled by one of the chefs!”
“Maybe [it could happen] five minutes after I’ve just said ‘This is the worst [dinner]!'” she joked, shaming but discreetly not naming certain chefs who have made venison for her which wasn’t up to scratch. She then wryly revealed she’d like actress Jody Comer to replace her on her show the following week, hoping people would see a great likeness.
She also let slip that she’s told pals she wants them to release the most flattering photo possible of her if the time comes when they need to announce her death. However, they now relentlessly tease her when they see a not so good image, telling her: “That’s the one we’re giving to Sky News if someone murders you!'”

Naturally, the food on I’m A Celebrity is likely to have been more disruptive to her palate than anything she’s ever eaten in the Masterchef kitchen, with bugs including live spiders having been swallowed by past contestants such as Ferne McCann.
Meanwhile, Matt Hancock suffered hugely last year as he was nominated for numerous Bushtucker Trials and ended up braving foods like camel penis and cow anus.
Grace braved the jungle herself this year, but soon appeared to have “had enough”, which she confided to campmate Josie Gibson of This Morning last Sunday night.
Her departure was announced shortly afterwards on “medical grounds”, and she departed from Brisbane airport just hours later, with Britney Spears’ sister Jamie Lynn later following hot on her heels.

Nella Rose is another of the contestants to have had medical issues during her jungle stay, forcing Nigel Farage to step in and complete her trial on her behalf, together with Hollyoaks star Nick Pickard.
The YouTuber – who has clashed with Nigel on topics such as “cultural appropriation” while in the camp – returned later.
Meanwhile, Grace had previously displayed her wry sense of humour in an article written for the Independent about I’m A Celebrity, more than ten years before she took the plunge and appeared on the show herself.
She wrote: “Let’s be frank, I’m a Celeb, love or hate it, is far from a deluxe viewing experience. It is a puerile venture into starvation, televised constipation and animal cruelty, abbreviated by ads for Iceland £1 curries.”
The acid-tongued food critic had concluded: “I snap my blinds firmly shut before settling down to watch I’m a Celeb, in fear that the theme tune alone devalues my property.”
