Halle Berry pulled off the ultimate New Year's prank (is that a thing now?), and fooled the entire internet into thinking that she tied the knot with her boyfriend Van Hunt over the holiday.

On Saturday, the actress intentionally sent the internet ablaze when she posted a pair of pictures from her tropical vacation with Hunt. In the first photo, the couple shared a kiss in what appears to be an empty chapel overlooking the water, and Berry wrote in the caption: "well…IT'S OFFICIAL!" But the following image seemingly confirmed that the couple was only celebrating the start of 2022, rather than a new marriage.

Without swiping to the next photo, the congratulations began to roll in from fans and Halle's celebrity friends — including Naomi Campbell, The Rock, Taraji P. Henson, and Octavia Spencer.

Hours later, Halle set the record straight and clarified that she and Hunt are not married. "We were just having some New Year's Day fun! People clearly don't swipe as much as we thought they did. Thank you for the well wishes, tho', it really touched our hearts," she wrote in a follow-up post. "Now it's OFFICIAL, the internet is no longer undefeated." She added the hashtags #nomoreswipes4me and #Januaryfoolsday.

Spencer, who originally fell for the prank, wrote in the comments section: "😂😂😂😂😂 Omgggggg. I am people!!!!!! So funny." Meagan Good added, "Loool. Welp, at least you felt the love 🤷🏽‍♀️😌🤣."

Berry and Hunt began dating in September 2020, and just last month the Bruised star revealed that their relationship is the real deal during her speech at the 4th Annual Celebration of Black Cinema & Television when she accepted the Career Achievement Award. "Besides directing my first movie, I also found the love of my life and I know it's true and this is how I know it's true," the actress said, addressing Hunt. "Because you fail so many times, you know what wrong looks like. And because I failed so many times, I now know what [love] really looks like." She added, "You have completed me. You have supported me. I've never had that, somebody who just lifted me higher, made me more of myself."
