Little Mix fans have called out Bake Off for their ‘cruel’ tweet about Jesy Nelson leaving the band.

The Twitter post came during Jesy’s former bandmate Jade Thirlwall's winning appearance on the show on Tuesday night.

The tweet featured a sketch of Jade’s Showstopper bake which was called: “Jade’s Can’t Live Without a Little Mix Concert” made out of gingerbread and featured all four members of the girl group.

“You can tell this was filmed a few months ago… #GBBO”, the post was captioned alongside an embarrassed face emoji.

Branding the tweet “cruel”, Little Mix were fans were quick to show they were less than impressed by the post.

“Cruel,” wrote one, while another fan added: “Unfortunately the Jesy connection makes this sound incredibly sarcastic & kinda rude which I don't think was the intention (at least I hope not!)” [sic].

A third wrote: "We did not deserve this from you," while a fourth accused the show of rubbing salt in the wound and added: "We knew but you decided to add salt".

Jade competed in The Celebrity Great British Bake Off, which raises money for Stand Up To Cancer, alongside rapper KSI, presenter Stacey Dooley and comedian Katherine Ryan.

Judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood were equally impressed with Jade’s Showstopper bake, which saw the contestants tasked with baking a scene of something they can't live without made of biscuits and meringues.

The 29 year old revealed the news on Instagram in a lengthy post and confessed being in the band had taken “a toll on her mental health”.

Fans have been speculating that Jesy is forging a solo career, and the star added further fuel to the fire when she was recently spotted heading to a recording studio.

The Black Magic hitmaker is thought to be working with Little Mix's producers to release her own music.

The singer, who has shared a picture from a recording studio, recently followed producers Patrick Jordan Patrikios and Sunny on Instagram.

Both Sunny and Patrick are Brit nominated and multi platinum-selling producers who worked alongside Little Mix before Jesy’s exit in December.

Patrick also shared a snap of Jesy wearing the same outfit she was wearing when she spent some time in a recording studio last week.

The Great Celebrity Bake Off continues Tuesday at 8pm on Channel 4.
