Love Island host Laura Whitmore on awkward first date with Iain Stirling

Laura Whitmore has dished the dirt on her very awkward first date with Iain Stirling.

The couple have been dating since 2017 and will soon be joining forces in a professional sense too as the face and voice of winter Love Island.

Laura, 33, bagged the hosting gig after Caroline Flack stepped down last month, while Iain, 31, has been offering his quirky insights on the islanders since the show began in 2015.

After jetting off to Cape Town ahead of the new series starting this weekend, presenter Laura has opened up about her own love life.

She appeared on This Morning where Philip Schofield quizzed her on her very first date with comedian Ian.

Laura said: “I feel like I should have cleared this with Iain, but since you guys are here and he’s not…

“He brought me to a comedy gig, so we sat in a dark room, faced not directly towards each other and then watched his friends perform. Then we met his friends and his friend’s family.

"We didn’t really talk to each other, and Iain was wearing… he’ll kill me for saying this… he was wearing a backpack and I thought he’d come from school or a jog somewhere, but it turns out he was working all day and got quite sweaty in his clothes, so he bought a new outfit and a backpack and put his old clothes in his backpack and came to the date.

"At the end of the date, he said, ‘Oh we should have just gone for a drink, shouldn’t we?"

Despite their unconventional start, the pair have gone from strength to strength with Iain delighted to welcome his girlfriend on board the ITV2 dating show.

Through her connection with Iain, Laura is already pals with a lot of the production crew with sources saying she had been an 'easy choice' to step in.

Holly Willoughby also asked Laura how she felt about taking over from Caroline Flack.

"It was a little bit of a whirlwind. When Caroline stepped down, she sent me a text message saying, “I really hope you get to do this series."
