Megan Barton Hanson has said she would "definitely" return to Love Island if there was ever a gay season of the dating show.

The glamour model shot to fame when she took part in the 2018 series of the hit ITV reality programme, when she finished in fourth place with then-boyfriend Wes Nelson.

But bisexual Megan, who has also dated Demi Sims and Chelcee Grimes, has told Cambridge University's debating society the Cambridge Union that if getting together with a woman had been an option for her, she would have had a very different time on Love Island.

During a debate on female empowerment, she said: "I think it would have been a completely different experience for me if there'd have been gay people on the show.

"It didn't even enter my head, I just assumed that every girl on there was completely straight.

"Logistically, I don't know how it would work if they just chucked in a few token gay people in there. I feel like we need a whole gay series.

Megan, who split up with Wes during his time in Dancing On Ice when he skated with Vanessa Bauer, complained that TV producers often included a token bisexual star but didn't let same-sex romances develop.

She said: "There's not enough, whether it's Celebs Go Dating, Love Island or any of those shows. I feel like they just do the bare minimum."

Megan took part in Celebs Go Dating in 2019, where she shared her first kiss with Demi and also dated men.

Another of Love Island's former contestants, Curtis Pritchard, has previously said he would be open to a same-sex relationship.

During his relationship with Maura Higgins, he told The Sun: "I've been with women and I’m with a woman now. You can never put a label on anything. It's a cliché to say, but love is blind.

"I can never ever say what will happen in the future. I wouldn’t rule anything out."
