Meghan Markle's ex husband Trevor Engelson reportedly felt "like something stuck to the bottom of her shoe” as their marriage came to an end in 2013.

The former actress, 39, and TV producer, 44, began dating in 2004 as Meghan was grabbing opportunities to make a name for herself in Hollywood. The pair tied the knot at the Jamaica Inn in Ocho Rios in 2011.

However, when Meghan landed her role as paralegal Rachel Zane in the popular lawyer show Suits, she moved her life over to Toronto, Canada, while Trevor remained in California.

The distance between them is said to have contributed to the break down of their marriage as the couple were no longer spending much time together.

A few years after this, Meghan reportedly decided to do something that made Trevor feel as though he was "like a piece of something stuck to the bottom of Meghan’s shoe.”

The star, whose next move is "dreaded" by Harry's brother William as they plan to become "influencers", filed for divorce in August 2013, citing "irreconcilable differences" as her career was beginning to take off.

Royal biographer Andrew Morton claimed in his book, Meghan: A Hollywood Princess, that she sent her diamond engagement and wedding ring back to Trevor in the mail.

The biographer explained that her estranged husband could "barely contain his anger" after this.

Meghan's former best friend and maid of honour at the wedding Ninaki Priddy said she didn't want to "associate herself" with the star after the incident.

“The way she handled it, Trevor definitely had the rug pulled out from under him. He was hurt," she told The Express.

While another of Meghan's pals, Abby Wathan, who worked with her on the film Random Encounters told the ITV documentary, Prince Harry and Meghan: Truly Madly Deeply: "We both went through a divorce so we bonded over that.

"I was destroyed but she was empowered. She took her power back. It wasn’t the right relationship for her, so she moved on.”

Meghan went on to marry Prince Harry, 36, and become the Duchess of Sussex before quitting the Royal Family together to start afresh in the US.
