Olivia Colman broke down in tears as she paid tribute to her late father in her emotional Emmy await acceptance speech on Sunday 19 September.

The Crown actress picked up the gong for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series for her role as Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown.

Actress Olivia and the rest of the cast in the UK attended a special ceremony on British soil due to travel restrictions between the UK and US.

Olivia, who took over the role from Claire Foy, paid tribute to her father as she accepted the award.

As she was met with applause, Olivia thanked the crowd and choked up and said: "Thank you very much. I'd have put money on that not happening, I don't know what to say, thank you very much this is amazing.

"And what a lovely end to the most extraordinary journey with this lovely family. I loved every second of it and I can't wait to see what happens next."

Holding back tears the actress went on: "And, I'm going to be very quick because I'm very teary as I wish my dad was here to see this."

Olivia's voice broke as the audience let out a heartbreaking "aww". The Crown star continued: "I lost my Daddy during Covid and he would have loved all of this."
