Paddy and Christine McGuinness have publicly confirmed that their 11 year marriage has finally come to an end, after months of speculation about the state of their relationship, just weeks after Christine herself had admitted they were having a “difficult time.”

Announcing the news online on Friday (July 22), both Paddy and Christine shared statements on their accounts, as they opened up about the “difficult decision” of calling time on their relationship.

They wrote: "We hadn't planned on sharing this publicly until we were ready but after the lack of privacy surrounding our life personal life, we feel left with no other option but to clarify.

“A while ago we took the difficult decision to separate but our main focus as always is to continue loving and supporting our children.

"This was not an easy decision to make but we are moving forward as the best parents we can be for our three beautiful children.

“We'll always be a loving family, we still have a great relationship and still live happily in our family home together."

The split follows months of speculation about the relationship, with rumours first beginning to swirl back after Paddy wasn’t seen publicly supporting Christine during her impressive sporting stint on ITV’s The Games.

Further speculation then followed after the two were seen taking separate holidays, and when Paddy appeared to have removed a tattoo that was previously dedicated to Christine, from his hand.

Breaking her silence on the subject earlier this month, Christine admitted that things had been “difficult”over the years, but that she was still grateful because Paddy had helped to bless her with “three gorgeous kids.”

She told OK! : "We have had difficult times but when I look back at our marriage and see where we are now, I think, ‘Wow, you know, we’ve done alright!’

"I first met Paddy 14 years ago and now we’ve got three gorgeous kids, we’ve been married for 11 years, we’re both busier than ever, but doing really great stuff. ”

Christine also echoed similar sentiments about the “difficulty” they were facing as she opened up toFabulous Magazine , about no longer accepting behaviours of the past as both she and Paddy had “grown”.

She told the publication: “I’m feeling really quite raw and all over the place.

“I think you’ve got to expect it. When you’ve been together for so long, you’re gonna have ups and downs. Everyone grows and changes and we’ve grown as a family, which is amazing.

“You know, that family bond will always be there no matter what but yeah, I was a teenager when I met him and I’m a 34-year-old woman now, so I suppose what I might have put up with in the past, I probably wouldn’t put up with now and same for him.”

Christine also hinted at the difficulties she had been experiencing during a recent appearance on ITV’s Lorraine.

Speaking candidly about her married life, Christine said: “I think marriages just go through their ups and downs anyway, you know. I think all marriages, especially long ones like ours, 15 years together, it's not always going to be plain sailing, but we're trying to deal with things as privately as possible and we both just want to be there to support the children and give them an amazing summer.”

The couple, who share three children together, twins Penelope and Leo, nine, and Felicity, six, have confirmed that they intend to continue living in the same house to provide stability for their family, as the kids will always remain their primary focus.

Speaking to OK! earlier this month, Christine reiterated how much of a doting dad Paddy was, but did confess he had previously had issues with leaving his work at the door in the past.

“He’s got a really strong bond with all of the children and he’s more hands-on now than ever before,” she says.

The Games star then continued: “He used to struggle to switch off from work when he came home and would be in his office writing or whatever.”

"But now he can see the kids are getting older and how fast time flies. So when he’s at home, he makes it all about the kids.”
