Everyone in the world likely thought that January 8, 2020 was going to be just another normal day with absolutely zero drama to be had! But Meghan Markle and Prince Harry had other plans for us all, it seems. In a shocking announcement, Meghan and Harry announced via Instagram that they are stepping down from their senior royal duties. It’s really dramatic day for fans of the Sussexes!
Meghan and Harry wrote:
While this announcement is already surprising enough on its own, Meghan and Harry allegedly did not notify the Queen (and the rest of the royals) about their decision to step down from their senior royal duties, meaning that Queen Elizabeth likely found out when the rest of the world did.
Jonny Dymond, a royal correspondent for BBC News, confirmed this likelihood and tweeted, “BBC Understands that no other member of the Royal Family was consulted before Harry and Meghan issued their personal statement tonight, the Palace is understood to be ‘disappointed.’”
BREAKING. BBC Understands that no other member of the Royal Family was consulted before Harry and Meghan issued their personal statement tonight, the Palace is understood to be ‘disappointed’.
Following this update, the Queen released a statement of her own through Buckingham Palace’s Twitter account. The Queen claims that Meghan and Harry have a bit more work to do before fully stepping down from their duties because they’re still in an “early stage” of coming to an agreement. “Discussion with The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are at an early stage,” the statement read. “We understand the desire to take a different approach, but these are complicated issues that will take time to work through.”
