Penny Lancaster took to social media this week to thank her friends for attending her birthday party amid “the most unprecedented time”.

The wife of Sir Rod Stweart, who turned 49 on March 15, hosted a lavish dinner party to mark her special day.

Despite Rod, 75, cancelling several gigs in Las Vegas due to the coronavirus outbreak, the couple still went ahead with their gathering.

Penny took to Instagram to share a picture of her pals sitting around a candle-lit dining table with her 96,400 followers.

The Loose Women star looked glamorous at the head of the table in a red satin gown which featured a bow on one shoulder.

The birthday girl wore her blonde tresses loose and held up a glass of wine for a toast.

Her well-dressed husband could be seen at the other end of the table in a white shirt and gold jacket.

Penny captioned the snap: “Thanks to all our friends for coming together to celebrate my birthday during the most unprecedented time we have known.”

She continued: “Together we stand, together we give thanks and although this might be one of the last get togethers for a while let’s pray we all remain safe and healthy.”

Instagram users and fans took to the comments section to share their thoughts and wish the TV star a happy birthday.

One fan wrote: “Happy birthday penny you look beautiful.”

However, one less than impressed fan said: “I do love you and Rod but this is so not right at the moment.”

Last night, the government announced that citizens over 70 should self isolate at home to reduce their chances of catching the coronavirus.

He also urged the whole country to stop all “non-essential” contact with others.

Rod and Penny, who have two sons together, are likely to go into self isolation following their return from America.
