Hollyoaks star Stephanie Davis has shared old pictures of her bruised body in a poignant reflective post ahead of this year's British Soap Awards.
The 26-year-old – who is nominated for Best Actress at the prestigious ceremony – revealed just how grateful she was to have her life back on track as she looked back on her turbulent past.
Thanking fans for sticking by her, Steph shared harrowing pictures of herself in hospital with a “broken nose, broken ribs, severed tendons in her hand and a bitten face” after being physically abused.
She also shared pictures from happier times, as she cuddled up to adorable son Caben-Albi and piled on the PDA with boyfriend Owen Warner.
Alongside the images, Steph wrote: “So… Tomorrow night is the Soap Awards. I just wanna say a massive Thankyou to everyone who voted for me!! All your support has meant the word to me, seriously…all your lovely comments every day & messages & votes etc. Whatever happens is meant to be… I’m a firm believer of that.
“For where I am in life now, I’m winning. It’s all about my beautiful baby boy & if I’ve made him proud, then that’s all that matters! I’ve over come so much, physical abuse broken nose broken ribs, severed tendons in my hand, bitten face bust lip, the list goes on, the worst mental abuse I wouldn’t wish on anyone, pregnant alone for 9 months, giving birth alone, lies and manipulation, Lies in the press, drinking to block the trauma and PTSD.
“Being lonely oh so lonely & drowning, no one listening, to finally trying to end my life…TO NOW… I fought through, I have worked my A** off on my self, in work, and EVERY aspect of my life! I struggled being a single mum, but I have done it, I’ve been knocked down massively but got back up & got back up & got back up again.”
The actress went on to thank her boyfriend Owen, 19, for giving her a "happy ending".
Sinead O'Connor actress Steph's Best Actress nomination comes after she's portrayed a dark rape storyline on Hollyoaks.
She added: “I gave my story line I had my absolute ALL, my aim was to help people and it has!!!goal reached!! And I’m proud of my self for going over it all again. I still have bad days & need to remind my self of how far I’ve come, but that’s okay.
“Because I’m here, I’m alive, im sober & I’m helping others with my story, and I have the most beautiful family I could ever have wished for.
"Here is to the strong people out there, may you continue fighting. Thankyou all for the amount of love and care you have shown me. I can’t wait to sit back, relax and enjoy the soap awards with my love owen.
"Good luck to anyone who’s up for an award your all winners. Thankyou my baby boy Caben, for keeping me fighting & going from the very beginning, you are the reason I am who I am today & everything I do I do for you.(sic)"
Steph's powerful post comes a year after returning to screens following the breakdown of her relationship with Celebrity Big Brother co-star Jeremy McConnell.
The couple met in the legendary house and later welcomed son Caben-Albi together, but their relationship soon turned sour.
In 2017, Irish model Jeremy was found guilty of attacking Steph in their Merseyside home while she was holding their eight-week-old son.
Jeremy, who had denied the attack in court, was sentenced to a 20-week suspended jail term and had to complete 200 hours of community service, pay Steph £1,000 in compensation and complete a Building Better Relationships course with the Probation Service.
He was also banned from contacting her or her mum or aunt for three years under the terms of a strict restraining order.
Steph had been pregnant with a second child but suffered a miscarriage, blaming the stress of the court case.
Tearfully speaking about the incident on The Jeremy Kyle Show, the reality star said: “I’m not violent to women. That was an incident that happened. I was convicted of a crime and I’ve done my punishments.”
