Twitter Is Dragging Billie Eilish for Not Knowing Who Van Halen Is and It's the Worst

Today in “can we all please leave Billie Eilish TF alone,” the 17-year-old singer is being dragged by boomers for not knowing who the band Van Halen is. Which, no offense to Van Halen, but WHY DOES ANYONE EVEN CAREEEEEEEE.

The moment in question went down on Jimmy Kimmel Live, when Jimmy asked Billie to “name a Van Halen” and she responded “who?”

Billie Eilish didn’t know who Van Halen was, I’m sobbing. pic.twitter.com/tX6xrs7cIE

The audience was shook that Billie doesn’t know who the famous band are (again, she is only 17!), and Twitter wasted no time dragging her. But those tweets are lame, so here’s a couple from everyone mocking them instead:

I hear your concerns about Billie Eilish not knowing Van Halen. The toll it has taken during this dark and difficult time. But I think back to when we soldiered on after Tom Holland said he hadn’t seen Empire Strikes Back. And I believe we, as a people, will survive.

Can’t believe a 17 year old has never heard of Van Halen or Deep Purple or the Louis Prima Orchestra

Van Halen has been trending at #1 just because Billie Eilish didn’t know who they were?!

1. Who cares?

2. She’s 17

3. Who cares?

Billie Eilish was born in like 2010 and grew up homeschooled with two groovy artist parents and a rad brother in sunny Eagle Rock, why the fuck would she know about Van Halen? God protect her from ever hearing about Rush. I wish somebody had sheltered me from this reality.

now let’s ask Van Halen if they know who Billie Eilish is and get performatively mad about that

People getting pissed off that Billie Eilish (not a rock act) doesn’t know who Van Halen are (a rock act) is like getting angry at someone who plays horror games not knowing what Imagine Fashion Designer is. Get a grip.

Meanwhile, Wolf Van Halen chimed in, writing “If you haven’t heard of @billieeilish, go check her out. She’s cool. If you haven’t heard of @VanHalen, go check them out. They’re cool too. Music is supposed to bring us together, not divide us. Listen to what you want and don’t shame others for not knowing what you like.”

Music is supposed to bring us together, not divide us. Listen to what you want and don’t shame others for not knowing what you like.

And Nine Inch Nails art director Rob Sheridan also chimed in, saying “RE: This Billie Eilish / Van Halen thing, honestly it’s extremely good that hair metal finally doesn’t matter anymore. We worked extremely hard to kill hair metal in the 90s, thank you teens for giving it an unceremonious ‘ok boomer.’ Imagine being a teen in the 90s and people being shocked that you didn’t know or care about Perry Como. Because THAT’S HOW OLD VAN HALEN IS NOW.”

In conclusion: Leave! Billie! Alone!
