Kate Middleton, 38, wife to Prince William, also 38, is known for her stylish outfits which she completes with her stunning jewellery. Her collection includes necklaces, earrings, rings and she will even sometimes add a brooch to her look.

Ranging from affordable to luxury, Kate has a large collection from small businesses to designer brands.

The Duchess also makes great effort to match her jewellery to her looks.

She does this by either matching the colour of the jewels to her outfit or adding a statement piece to a simple style.

Kate has a vast earring collection, with pieces from small studs to large dangle earrings.

One pair of earrings the Duchess has worn on several occasions have an impressive background story.

Her elegant Empress Earrings by Mappin & Webb are just one of Kate’s stylish pairs.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, Alex Michell, Senior Pawnbroking Appraiser Prestige Pawnbrokers of Channel 4’s Posh Pawn gave an insight into where they came from.

The expert said: “In keeping with Kate Middleton’s subtle style, these Empress Earrings by Mappin & Webb are easy to wear, with an everyday look or for a special occasion.”

Alex also shared that they were first worn by the Duchess on a very special occasion.

The expert added: “Made of 18ct gold and pave set with diamonds all the way up to the stem, they were first worn to Princess Charlotte’s christening in July 2016, an important occasion for Kate; she must hold a strong sentimental attachment to these pieces.”

For Princess Charlotte’s christening, Kate stunned in a knee-length smart cream dress with matching cream accessories.

This included matching heels and a matching cream fascinator.

Her drop Empress Earrings complete the look, along with the matching Empress necklace.

A lot of Kate’s pieces stem from an interesting origin, and these earrings are no different.

The jewellery expert went on: “Originally the design was made in the 1920s for the Queen of Siam but were eventually archived; they were revived as part of the Empress collection.

“The earrings and pendant have made regular appearances as part of Kate’s outfits.“

She has also worn them with a plum dress to a forum in London back in 2017 as well as adding the pendant and earrings to a bright blue jumper for a Patron lunch.

The pieces tend to be constantly sold out online but the earrings retail for £3,750 while the pendant retails at £2,000.

Another impressive piece of jewellery Kate has in her collection previously belonged to Princess Diana.

Her engagement ring, previously given to Diana by Prince Charles features a large oval sapphire in the centre, surrounded by 14 diamonds.

Roseanna Croft, founder of Roseanna Croft Jewellery said: “In my opinion this engagement ring is priceless; not only because of what it means to the Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge, but it also carries the legacy of Princess Diana, a woman who meant so much to many people throughout our nation, not to mention her sons and family.”
