Zara has done it again, with a trending piece that you’ll be seeing everywhere over the coming months.

The faux leather jacket in question has reached cult status on TikTok, much like the spotty dress that gained its own Instagram account back in 2019, such was its ubiquity.

Featuring a lapel collar, rugged zips, a chunky buckled belt and a relaxed cropped fit, it’s available in distressed charcoal and priced at £59.99.

After Molly-Mae Hague sported a similar one earlier this year, the biker has been flying off shelves, selling out and being restocked regularly to meet demand.

But with popularity comes oversaturation, and it seems like everyone and their mother has been down to Zara to get their hands on the season’s hottest outerwear buy.

Sarah Wroblewski posted a TikTok recently showing dozens of people wearing the jacket at a sample sale, captioning the video: ‘Your sign to NOT buy the viral Zara jacket.’

The platform is also host to hundreds of posts featuring styling tips for it and acknowledging the trend. Three staff members at Bohomoon Jewellery donned their identical biker jackets in one video, jokingly adding, ‘If you know you know’ in the caption.

Now, it’s important to note that an item being popular doesn’t make it bad. If anything, the craze proves that there’s an appetite for versatile yet stylish coats that suit all seasons (especially given this country’s changeable weather).

However, most of us know the embarrassment of turning up to an event wearing the same thing as somebody else, and would rather avoid the faux pas where possible.

If you love the look of Zara’s jacket but don’t want to jump on the viral bandwagon, there are thankfully plenty of alternatives on the high street.

Distressed leather and 80s Pam-core are both in fashion at the moment, allowing you to emulate the style of this piece without blending into the crowd.

Look for pieces with sturdy hardware and biker accents, and err on the side of oversized to keep it casual. Alternatively, keep the distressed leather look, but switch up the shape with a collarless or boxier design.

Since you’ll be spoiled for choice with what’s available, we’ve picked our favourite jackets that are like the one at Zara but, crucially, are not the same.

Brown Distressed Look Belted Hem Biker

The gold hardware and brown colour of this jacket keeps it different from the Zara option, but the moto shape is perfect to throw on with any outfit.

Faded Faux Leather Biker Jacket with Belt

We love the olive green shade of this, which has the added bonus of marking it out from the cult favourite Zara jacket.

Collusion Unisex Motocross jacket in Faux Distressed PU

For all the moto style without the fashion victim status, this unisex coat is a winner. Wear with a dress to add a masculine edge to your ‘fit.

Cropped Real Leather Belt Detail Biker Jacket

Go for real leather if you want a piece that’ll stand the test of time and only look better as it ages.

Vegan Leather Moto Jacket

Keep it simple with a minimalist biker jacket in sleek black, which can seamlessly take you from the office to a night out.
