Sophie, Countess of Wessex, 57, travelled to Washington D.C. to receive an award from former Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton. The Countess wore a glamorous blouse and daring black leather skirt for the occasion.
For her important speech about working against violence towards women, Sophie wore a Emilia Wickstead “Dana Silk Organza Blouse” which she has owned since 2018.
The product description says: “Subtle details underpin the composed aesthetic of this ivory Emilia Wickstead stippled stretch-crepe top.
“The feminine silhouette is shaped with long sleeves that are softly gathered on the cuff to create an exaggerated ruffle, and constructed with front and back central seams.
“Slip it over true-blue denim and a pair of colour-pop slingbacks – one of Resort 2018’s leading pieces.”
Unfortunately, this product is no longer in stock, so it is unclear how much the garment cost at the time of purchase. Royal fan @dagmar_Marie77 tweeted about Sophie: “She is an absolute star. She is a trailblazer. She is kind and compassionate. She is The Countess of Wessex, our very own Super Sophie.”
Members of the Royal Family love wearing Emilia Wickstead, including Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle.
According to the website: “Years before Emilia Wickstead’s dresses became a favourite on the red carpet, she began her training alongside her mother – a bespoke womenswear designer in their native New Zealand.
“After graduating from London’s Central Saint Martins in 2007, Wickstead moved to New York and gained experience working for some of the industry’s biggest fashion houses.
“In 2011, she showed her first collection at London fashion week and quickly garnered a following for her modern, ladylike aesthetic.
“Worn by a diverse collective of stars – from Alexa Chung to the Duchess of Cambridge – the designer’s elegant dresses and separates are recognisable for their sumptuous fabrics and sophisticated colour palette.”
Sophie paired her Emilia Wickstead blouse with a daring long black leather skirt that had a silver buckle towards the top.
Being a member of the Royal Family has many advantages, however, it also comes with a strict set of rules, especially when it comes to fashion.
From wearing nude tights to modest outfit choices, there is a long list of royal style protocols which includes the type of fabrics they are allowed to wear.
The female members of the family are expected to avoid wearing leather completely as it’s not deemed to be “ladylike” and isn’t a traditional fabric associated with the royal wardrobe.
However, in recent years, many royals have sported the daring trend in their everyday outfits.
Sophie, Countess of Wessex has broken this style rule in the past, even stepping out in New York in a head-to-toe leather look back in March earlier this year.
The mother-of-two stunned in a black Loewe belted midi dress, teamed with a pair of Yves Saint Laurent black leather ankle boots.
Although Sophie broke the rules with her choice of fabric, she made sure to keep her look modest by wearing a long-sleeve top underneath her fashion-forward dress.
The Countess finished her outfit off with a cream Max Mara coat and a stylish snakeskin clutch bag while accessorising with a gold pendant necklace and drop earrings.
However, Sophie is not the only royal to break this rule. Everyone from Meghan Markle to Kate, Princess of Wales and even Princess Diana have been known to be fans of leather.
