Cheryl has recently been back in the headlines, but not for career news many would expect. The former Girls Aloud star is putting down her mic and trying her hand at acting, making her debut in the West End show 2:22 A Ghost Story.

Replacing ex-Love Island host Laura Whitmore and co-starring with Hugo Chegwin, Cheryl, 39, will perform the role of Jenny at the Lyric Theatre from January to April.

Announcing the news, Cheryl wrote on Instagram: “"Hey!!! .. I am SO excited to be starring in the west end thriller @222aghoststory!!

"I will be playing the role of Jenny from January – April!

"I went to see the show with a previous cast and LOVED IT!

"It is a totally new and exciting experience for me so if you’re looking for a fun night out & some entertainment in your new year tickets are available now….whenever you’re ready."

Cheryl last released new music in 2018 with comeback track Love Made Me Do It but it failed to hit the top of the charts.

As well as her shock career change, Cheryl’s love life has been equally as tumultuous over the years. The star is currently single but has dated some famous faces and been married twice.

Cheryl’s first very-public relationship was with footballer Ashley Cole. The pair started dating in 2004 and later married in 2006 in Hertfordshire. However Ashley’s infidelity rocked the relationship and the couple divorced in 2010.

After meeting while filming Cheryl's music video for "Parachute," Derek Hough and Cheryl dated for about a year. Only after their breakup was the relationship officially acknowledged when Derek admitted, "We dated for a while. Absolutely we are still friends, we are still very close." Cheryl also briefly dated Tre Holloway, after meeting during the XFactor in 2010, but the relationship lasted only just over a year.

In 2014, three months after they first met in Cannes, Cheryl shocked her fans by announcing her engagement to her French restaurateur beau, Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini. A little over a year after getting married, the pair decided to call it quits. Jean-Bernard blamed the pressures of dating such a public figure as the reason for their split.

Cheryl and Liam Payne first met on the X Factor in 2008, when she was a judge and he was a 14-year-old contestant. Fast-forward to 2016 and the pair sent shockwaves when they were pictured holding hands at a Tesco in Guildford. They started dating shortly after Cheryl's divorce from Jean-Bernard was finalised and welcomed their only child, Bear Grey Payne in March 2017.

While engagement rumours surfaced over the next few months, when they made their appearance at BRITs in February 2018, there were reports their relationship was on the rocks. Four months later the pair announced their split.

Over the past year, Cheryl has been busy honouring her late bandmateSarah Harding’s memory. In October, she joinedKimberley Walsh ,Nadine CoyleandNicola Robertsfor charity fundraiser The Primrose Ball, which they organised to raise money for breast cancer afterSarah lost her battle with the disease aged 39in September 2021.

In a heartfelt post, she wrote on Instagram after the moving night: “After an intensely emotional (& quite stressful) year of planning & organisation we managed to fulfil our last promise to Sarah.

None of us can fight this awful disease by ourselves but by coming together, leaning on each other and fighting side by side we can surely try.”
