A fashion influencer has revealed exactly how to take an outfit from drab to fab in just a few simple steps – even if it’s just a regular old white T-shirt.

Emily Schuman, 40, is the founder and CEO of the award-winning fashion and lifestyle blog, Cupcakes And Cashmere, which she began in 2008. In addition to blogging, she also shares her fashion and cooking tips on her social media accounts.

The Los Angeles-based author of Cupcakes And Cashmere At Home recently took to Instagram Reels to show viewers how to spruce up a plain white top as part of her ‘Not Styled/Styled’ series, where she shares how you can transform your own outfits.

In the first clip that Schuman shared, she wore a pair of cropped blue jeans, a plain white tank top and black, slide-style sandals as part of the outfit that wasn’t styled.

To fix up the outfit and transform it into a styled look, Schuman layered the tank top with a denim ‘shacket,’ along with a pair of black, pointed-toe mules and black leather bag.

To top it all off, the blogger pulled her hair back with a black velvet bow, a large pair of gold hoop earrings and black sunglasses, proving that a little bit can go a long way when it comes to accessorizing.

Next up, she showed how to style a white T-shirt paired with a black wrap miniskirt, an essential that’s hanging in many people’s closets.

Schuman began with a standard white crewneck tee over the miniskirt, paired with the same sandals from her first look.

To jazz things up, she simply tucked in the T-shirt, threw on a long, dark beige-colored trench coat, and slipped a pair of platform Chanel loafers with white ankle socks on her feet.

When it came to her hair, Schuman tied it back in a messy bun and left two strands out to frame her face, complete with a pair of oversized black sunglasses.

For her final magic trick, Schuman put on an oversized white T-shirt with a pair of baggy, beige trousers and the same sandals she was wearing throughout.

To make the outfit a bit more sophisticated and trendy, she decided to tuck the shirt in, and put on a pair of trendy glove-style black ballet flats in place of the sandals.

For one of her outfits, Schuman paired a white T-shirt with a plain black wrap skirt, sprucing it up with a beige trench and pair of Chanel loafers

From drab to fab! Emily’s takes on a white T-shirt

  • Spruce it up with a trench coat and loafers
  • Add on oversized sunglasses for a ‘styled’ look
  • Tuck in the shirt for a more put-together vibe
  • Changing your hairstyle can make all the difference

She also wore her hair down with a pair of sunglasses on her face, added a simple black belt with silver hardware, and threw on a black leather handbag with a rounded top.

In the comments section of her post, many users were seemingly impressed by the blogger’s easy style solutions, which prove that all it takes to elevate any outfit is a few nice and simple accessories.

‘I feel like I’m a fashion moron these days after having kids and I have no idea what’s in anymore so please keep up with this sort of content ’cause it helps me wrap my tired millennial brain around it a lot more than just a pic of a completed outfit,’ one person admitted.

Another agreed: ‘I love these styled vs not styled you are doing. Keep them coming!’

‘These are truly so helpful,’ someone else typed.

One commenter wrote: ‘I love these stories so much – you look so chic and put together!’

But one viewer pointed out that Schuman still looked great in the ‘unstyled’ looks.

‘You still look cute unstyled!!’ they gushed.
