And now our watch has ended. “Game of Thrones” is wrapping up its eight season run with a bang.
“Game of Thrones” series finale spoilers below:
Well, that escalated quickly. Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) died just halfway into the series finale, stabbed by her weeping lover and nephew Jon Snow (Kit Harginton).
Dany is clearly a zealot — after razing King’s Landing in the penultimate episode, she begins the finale outlining her plan to conquer — sorry, “liberate” the world. Because promoting a Master of War sure seems peaceful and not ominous!
She dresses it up as liberation and “breaking the wheel,” but as Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) says, “she’ll go on liberating until the people of the world are free and she rules them all.”
Jon finds her in the deserted Throne room with the roof blown out and snow everywhere — just like her Season 2 vision in the House of the Undying. He tries to reason with her to have mercy for the people of King’s Landing and for Tyrion, but she doesn’t give, and he kisses her and stabs her in the front.
Her dragon then melts the throne and flies away with her body. So technically … Drogon the dragon broke the wheel.
It’s dramatic and shocking, and it’s sure to instigate hot debates among fans. Check back for a full recap of the season finale.
