Gérard Houllier has passed away at the age of 73. With a successful career in the football industry, how much was the manager worth?
He managed many clubs including Paris Saint-Germain, Lens and Liverpool, with whom he won the FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Cup and UEFA Super Cup in 2001.
Gérard studied at Lille University to pursue a degree in English but dropped out in his first year following his father’s illness.
He later became a school teacher while he completed his degree alongside work, part-time.
As part of his degree, he spent a year in Liverpool as a classroom assistant where he attended his first Liverpool F.C match in 1969.

Gérard later became the deputy headmaster of the École Normale d’Arras until he was 26, when he began his full-time managerial career as player-manager of Le Touquet.
He also guided Olympique Lyonnais to two French titles, before announcing his resignation in 2007.
Three years later, Gérard became the manager of Aston Villa and left just a year later in early June, 2011 following frequent hospitalisations over heart problems.
On the news, he said: “I am extremely disappointed that I will not have the opportunity to manage Aston Villa next season.

“My health has improved considerably since I was taken ill on the 20th of April. I now intend to take the next few months to concentrate on recuperating fully before I may return to football.”
Between 1992 and 1993, the businessman also coached the France national team and was the technical director for the French Football Federation in 2010.
Since 2012, Gérard had been Head of Global Football for Red Bull.
The former footballer had also been awarded a number of awards including an honorary OBE for services to British football.
