DEAR DEIDRE: I KEEP dreaming about still being in love with my ex but I’m not that person any more.
In fact, I hate the ground she walks on.

She’s 42 while I’m 45 and a single dad to my little girl, who is ten.
My ex moved in six years ago. It quickly became clear she was very money orientated.
She insisted on splitting the bills exactly and wouldn’t spend a penny on my daughter – fair enough – but we even had separate food cupboards.
She also had a hatred of men, so we couldn’t continue.
My daughter was close to her, though, so I explained that she’d always be her stepmum.
Months ago, she came to pick up my daughter and told her: “This is the last time I’m doing this and it’s all your dad’s fault.” We never saw her again.

My daughter and I are happy now being us two, but I keep dreaming of my ex and imagining I’m following her like a lovesick puppy. I can’t understand why.
I contacted her to see if we could meet but she said if I did so again, she’d call the police. I want these dreams to stop.

DEIDRE SAYS: We can’t control our dreams. Some dreams we’d like to stay in while others we would rather avoid.
You are still feeling upset about the way things turned out and the hurt your daughter undoubtedly feels, so seek support from Tavistock Relationships, (tavistockrelationships.org, 020 7380 1975).
