DEAR DEIDRE: MY parents worked hard to get me my current job but I am so bored with it.

I am a male aged 18 and left school to take up an apprenticeship.

The pay is good and I know I am learning a lot but I am so bored with doing the same things all the time.

Being stuck in an office all day is not right for the sort of person I am.

I like to be hands-on, out there doing stuff. I have been looking around to see about other jobs but I don’t know how to tell my parents about my feelings and that I want to quit, when they made such an effort for me.

DEIDRE SAYS: Find out all you can about the sort of work you really want to do and opportunities locally.

It will be easier to talk to your parents if you have clearly researched other opportunities.

Tell them you have learned a lot so they know their efforts were not wasted.
