Royal Mail issues update on service – postcodes affected by delays this week

Royal Mail said: “We’re delivering and collecting mail in all parts of the UK today. However, deliveries may be disrupted in some areas due to resourcing issues at some of our delivery offices.” The postal company has shared the postcodes that could be affected this week. 

This year, Royal Mail has dealt with an increase in demand for letters and parcels due to more people turning online throughout the pandemic.

This has caused a big increase in parcels for delivery services like Royal Mail who are trying their best to keep on top of deliveries.

However, due to staff self-isolating and social distancing measures in place, different parts of the UK face delays each week.

Royal Mail has shared an update on its website today, sharing the areas affected this week.

The company added: “We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week.

“If resourcing issues, associated self-isolation and safety measures prevent this, we’ll deliver at least every other day. It’s only in extreme cases – where offices are severely affected by absence levels – that this may not be possible.”

Royal Mail said they are sorry for any inconvenience and thank customers for their understanding as they are working hard to deliver as comprehensive a service as possible.

While there are fewer postcodes affected by the delays each week, the company regularly still updates its website with the affected areas.

Affected areas this week:

  • Basingstoke (RG21-RG26)
  • Margate (CT7-CT9)
  • North Tyneside (NE25-NE30)
  • St. Albans (AL1-AL5)

The company said they are also prioritising the delivery of Covid-19 vaccination letters after Britons feared that they would arrive too late. 

Coronavirus test kits are also being prioritised by Royal Mail. 

The postal company added: “If you need to collect an item for which we’ve left a ‘Something for you’ card from one of these offices, please check royalmail.com/services-near-you for details of our revised Customer Service Point opening hours.

“If we’ve not left a ‘Something for you’, and you do not have alternative arrangements in place, we’re sorry that your mail will not be available for collection.”

In other news, there are a series of scams circulating at the moment perpetuating to be Royal Mail.

The postal company said: “These are the current scams we’re aware of that look like they’re sent by Royal Mail, but are in fact fraud or phishing scams. Please don’t click on any of the links in these emails and be vigilant if you receive a communication.”

Scams include emails informing customers that their packages could not be delivered due to no custom duty being paid as well as a text message telling customers that a delivery must be rescheduled.

The link in the text messages takes customers to a scam site asking for payment according to Royal Mail. 

Another text scam that is currently circulating is asking customers to pay a shipping fee along with a fake Royal Mail link.

It reads: “Royal Mail: Your Package Has A £2.99 Shipping Fee, To Pay This Now Please Visit: uk-royal-mail-fees.com action will be taken if you do not pay this fee.”

Similar text message scams read: “Your Royal Mail parcel is waiting for delivery. Please confirm the settlement of £2.99 (GDP) on the following link.”
