THE New Year has arrived and Brits are looking to stock up their cupboards after a busy festive period.

But anyone needing to hit the shops on New Year's Day should be aware that opening hours are often different than usual.

We take a look at the opening hours for Tesco, Aldi, Morrisons and M&S.

Aldi

The supermarket is CLOSED on New Year's Day after shutting early on New Year's Eve.

All Aldi stores were shut on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, only reopening on Monday, December 27.

Now, they will be back open on January 2 – but with limited hours outside of Scotland until January 4.

Check your local stores for opening times depending on your location.

Asda

Asda will be open on New Year's Day – but running Sunday hours.

This means that shoppers will only be able to go in from 10am until 5pm.

Asda was shut on Christmas Day and has been running varied hours ever since.

Yet, hours are set to resume to normal service from January 4 where Brits can head to their local from 8am to 10pm during the week and on Saturdays.

For your local stores' opening times, you can look them up by using the Asda store finder.

M&S

All M&S stores will see their hours reduced for New Year's Day with shoppers only able to pick up their groceries from 10am to 6pm.

The famed department store was closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day this year – running varied hours throughout the festive period.

However, from January 3, M&S goes back to its normal hours when it will open at 8am to 10pm.

Check your local store's festive hours before you make the trip.

Morrisons

Morrisons have also reduced their hours for New Year's Day with opening hours from 9am until 6pm.

The supermarket has been shut on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, operating normal service in the week before the New Year.

Customers can expect their local stores to resume normal shop hours from January 3 where it will 7am to 10pm.

But first check your local branch with their store finder tool to find out before you make the trip.

Sainsbury's

The majority – if not all – Sainsbury's stores have been open since 7am on New Year's Day.

Like all other supermarkets, they were shut on Christmas Day and operating varied hours over the festive period.

However, opening hours can be different from shop to shop so check their store locator tool to find out about your local.

Tesco

Tesco branches' opening hours always vary from store to store – in particular from the big supermarkets to the smaller Express shops.

However, some will be closed on New Year's Day, with Fleet Street Express on The Strand among them.

Elsewhere, normal Saturday hours are in place – but before you head out, it is advised to check Tesco's store locator tool for opening times near you.
