DEAR DEIDRE: WHEN I get home from work it’s complete chaos, with my wife glued to her phone and my son running amok.
It’s making me really grumpy and we’re fighting all the time.

I am a 32-year-old man and work long shifts so I am often not at home at bedtime. Our son is five years old.
The usual scene is I get home at 7pm, our son is jumping about and into everything, and my wife is on her phone. Snapchat and TikTok seem more important to her.
He doesn’t get to bed until 10pm, by which time I am ready for bed too.
I have asked if we can start getting him to bed between 6pm and 7pm and I am happy to do it whenever I am home early enough.
I’m worried our relationship is beyond repair.
DEIDRE SAYS: Your son is going loopy trying to get attention. Talk to your wife and agree when his quiet time should begin and that means putting phones away.
Getting him to bed at a reasonable time will give you a chance to reconnect.
Lockdown has been particularly hard for parents expected to stay home and teach their children. It is a long day for your wife to be alone with your son.
I am sending you my support pack How To Look After Your Relationship which will help you both communicate.
