Too Hot to Handle is back for a second season, with an entirely new crew. Well, kinda of. The on-screen talent dominating the Turks and Caicos resort includes a new bunch of sexy singles. Narrator Desiree Burch is back to deliver hilarious commentary that’ll have you cracking up while placing bets on who will break down under the show’s celibacy challenge first. (And no, she’s not the voice of The Circle, that role belongs to the one and only Michelle Buteau.)

As all good THTH fans know, Desiree doesn’t ~actually~ appear onscreen, but it’s hard to miss her one-liners. (Her zingers make the series, if you ask me.) Of course, Desiree has a life—and a whole career—outside of the show. Here’s what you need to know about the talented narrator on Too Hot To Handle.

She’s an award-winning comedian.

No shocker there. Desiree has been blowing away people in the UK since 2015, when she won a Funny Women Stage Award. Since then, she’s appeared on several BBC shows, her own Comedy Central special called Desiree Burch Live, and on the Netflix series Flinch.

If her one-liners on Too Hot to Handle make you LOL, just wait until you sit down for a whole hilarious special.

She talks about sex in her stand-up routines, too.

Desiree’s 2018 standup show, Unfuckable, covered her past as a virgin dominatrix with a focus on self love and self worth. “The show takes on sex, work, sex work, and how to keep sex from becoming work,” she previously told The List. “I talk about the commodification of my black, female, plus-sized body, and how that work helped me to recognize other places in my life where those elements are at play. In many ways, it’s about reclaiming the self and one’s own value, by trying to discover what it’s worth.”

Before her comedy days, Desiree used to be a sex worker.

Desiree shared on The Jonathan Ross Show in 2019 that she worked as a dominatrix when she was in her early 20s. “It’s one of those things I wanted to say that I had done,” she joked. “I got paid to beat guys up, which is what every woman wants.”

Desiree said she was a virgin when she started working as a dominatrix, and she did the job to try to understand sexual desire more. “I found men frightening,” she told The Metro. “I thought if I could do this, I could figure out more about men and their desires.”

Desiree attended and earned her undergrad degree from Yale.

Yep, that Yale. Desiree graduated with a B.A. in Theater Studies from Yale University, according to her website. While she was there, she worked in experimental theater and performance art.
