DEJAN LOVREN is reportedly on the verge of leaving Liverpool in a £23million deal to Roma.
Calcio Mercato claims the centre-back, 30, is set to end his five-year stay at Anfield after falling down the pecking order under Jurgen Klopp.
Joe Gomez is set to partner Virgil van Dijk this season, while Joel Matip has firmly established himself as the next in line.
And Lovren is ready to call time on his Merseyside adventure by agreeing a move to the Italian capital.
Roma are a defender short after selling Kostas Manolas to Carlo Ancelotti’s Napoli.
And after failing to agree a deal for Tottenham ace Toby Alderweireld, new boss Paulo Fonseca has set his sights on Croatia international Lovren.
Liverpool were believed to be demanding just £18.5m earlier this month.
But it’s now reckoned that Roma are ready to pay a higher fee to beat off competition from AC Milan.
And the Italians now have until August 23 to complete a deal before the Serie A transfer window slams shut.
Lovren joined Liverpool from Southampton for £20m in 2014, and has scored seven goals in 170 appearances.
He leaves on the back of the jubilant Champions League final win over Spurs in June, while also reaching the World Cup final with Croatia in 2018.
