GABON and Comoros clash tonight as the AFCON group stage rolls on at pace.

But Gabon talisman and Arsenal ex-captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be playing no part this evening.

Aubameyang tested positive for Covid on arrival in Cameroon.

The news came just days after the Gabon forward was spotted partying with team-mates in Dubai.

Videos posted online revealed Aubameyang, 32, on a night out with Mario Lemina, 28, who has also tested positive for coronavirus.

    Panthers to struggle without Aubameyang?

With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missing, Gabon may struggle for goals.

The Arsenal striker misses out after testing positive for Covid-19.

As revealed by Opta, Aubameyang has scored six and assisted three of his country's 13 Afcon goals since his tournament debut in 2010.

The Panthers will need a new hero to step up this evening if they are to be successful.

    Gabon missing their talismanic striker

The Panthers will be without star man Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, after the Arsenal forward's positive Covid test upon arrival in Cameroon.

Aubameyang featured for Gabon against Mauritania in Dubai last week as they fine tuned their preparations.

But after being pictured partying with team-mate Mario Lemina, Aubameyang subsequently tested positive for Covid-19 and will miss his side's first two games.

Former Southampton and Fulham ace Lemina will also miss out for the same reason.

    Desperate for better this time

Gabon have more of a rich history in the Africa Cup of Nations than Comoros, making their eighth appearance in the finals.

They are yet to go beyond the quarter-finals, however, something they will be eager to change this time around.

First they will have to arrest their current Afcon form – as they are winless in their last five matches in the competition (D3, L2).

    Ready for a dream debut?

Comoros are making their Afcon debut this evening against Gabon.

The East African archipelago will be dreaming of glory, but the odds are stacked against them in Yaounde.

Since 2000, only three of 11 Africa Cup of Nations debutants have qualified to the knockout stages.

It did happen in the last edition in 2019, however, when Madagascar defied the odds to extend their stay in the tournament.

    Welcome to Gabon vs Comoros

Hello, good evening and welcome to SunSport's live coverage of the Africa Cup of Nations Group C clash between Comoros and Gabon in Yaounde.

The match sees both sides get their Afcon campaigns underway.

But it will be an extra special occasion for Comoros, with the East African side making their tournament debut.

The volcanic archipelago has a population of around 870,000 and will look to punch above its weight at this year's tournament.

Gabon, meanwhile, are more seasoned competitors at this level.

But they will have to cope without star man Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for this one.

The Arsenal forward hasn't played at club level in over a month after being exiled by Gunners boss Mikel Arteta.

But since his arrival in Cameroon he has tested positive for Covid-19, ruling him out of his nation's first two games.

Their could yet be Premier League involvement, however, with Brighton youngster Ulrick Eneme Ella part of Gabon's 28-man squad.

The 20-year-old has been a regular for the Seagulls' Under-23 side this season.

He represented France up to Under-19 level, before switching his allegiance to Gabon.
