DIVE into Fortified Bay for the Grimthorpe.
This hasn’t been a contest for the younger generation and seven-year-olds Boldmere and Worthy Farm have a tall order on the stats.
Looking at the weights, only one of the past ten winners carted more than 11st which puts you off the chances of Definitly Red, Saint Xavier and Yalltari who all have a lot of lead in the saddle.
Finishing in the first three last time out is a plus and that can’t be said of Ascot De Bruyere or Cesar Et Rosalie.
You want a relatively lightly raced horse for the Grimthorpe so we’ll overlook Captain Chaos who is having his 21st run over fences. Most winners of this are in single figures. Chidswell goes too for the same reason.
That leaves us with a shootout between Aaron Lad and FORTIFIED BAY. They both tick the trends boxes and are both available at solid each-way prices.
The latter gets the nod as he’s an eight-year-old and that group has won three of the past five renewals.
Aaron Lad isn’t overlooked easily and he relished testing ground when coming home first at Exeter last time out.
