Saquon Barkley is confident he will come back as strong as ever from his season-ending injury.
“Gonna be a hell of a story,” the Giants star wrote Monday on Instagram, alongside an image of himself being helped off the field after tearing his right ACL during Sunday’s loss to the Bears.
Barkley seemingly heard what Joe Judge had said hours earlier, when the Giants first-year head coach told reporters, “I wouldn’t fall asleep on (No.) 26. It’s going to be a helluva story.’’
It usually takes up to a year for athletes to recover from an ACL tear, though fellow star running back Adrian Peterson returned from the injury within eight months in 2012.
The face of the Giants, Barkley struggled behind a weak offensive line in Week 1 when he ran for 6 yards on 15 carries. He had 28 yards on four carries Sunday before falling awkwardly following a clean tackle.
The 0-2 Giants are in the process of searching for a replacement back, and plan on working out former Atlanta Falcons starter Devonta Freeman this week.
