He’s put in two solid efforts since including a Listed victory at Pontefract last time where he won despite a muddling pace. He shapes as though this slightly longer trip will suit and has more to offer.

Pogo was good enough to finish third in a French Group 1 last time after striking at Windsor. He was a close-up third in that Hunt Cup and Ryan Moore takes over in the saddle.

Lord Glitters is taking a drop in class after finishing a good third in the York Stakes here last month. He kicked off the campaign with fourth in an Ascot Group 2 and should be fully wound up now after those two efforts.

Zabeel Prince was a Group 1 winner last season. He came back from a year off to finish a rusty fifth at Leopardstown and should be fitter today.

Beringer finished strongly behind Dark Vision at Ponte and could improve for that season comeback.

I’m in danger of following KIPPS over a cliff but he keeps hinting at a big win and has hit the frame in two arguably better races than this.

He didn’t get the best of runs when a still decent fourth at Newmarket last time. Hughie Morrison steps him back up in trip today and he looked a stayer when finishing second in the King George V Handicap at Royal Ascot. His mark still looks more than fair and there are few miles on the clock.

Favorite Moon looks a big danger under top 3lb claimer Cieren Fallon. He was a game winner in soft ground at Haydock last time and he’s got bottomless stamina. A 7lb rise in the weights gives him a bit more to do but it’s early days for him too.

Grand Bazaar was beaten in a head-bobber at Ascot 14 days ago and is only 3lb higher in the handicap today. He goes from the front and didn’t down tools when tackled in that narrow defeat. Those tactics could take him close again.

Coltrane is on the upgrade after a good small-field success at Newmarket. He saw out 1m6f really strongly and won’t be stopping at the line.

Midnights Legacy and Fishable both come here in excellent form and should improve for this stiffer test of stamina.

ONE MASTER overcame all kinds of trouble in running to land a gutsy success in the Group 3 Oak Tree Stakes at Glorious Goodwood last time.

She had to sit and suffer for a long way before picking up really well once in the clear. That was her first race over this trip since winning at the highest level in France and she gets weight from the boys for good measure.

Escobar wasn’t so lucky on the Downs when hampered a couple of times in the Lennox Stakes. He boxed on well for third and has his sights lowered slightly today.

Safe Voyage was a place behind him there after winning nicely over this distance at Epsom. He goes on any ground so won’t mind if there’s some rain around to blunt the speed of his rivals.

San Donato has been hard to keep fit and is having just his fourth since since 2018. He was second in the Summer Mile at Ascot but ran a bit below that when floored by Mohaather in the Sussex Stakes. This is a drop in class but he needs his old sparkle.

Threat has winning form at this level and has been tackling Group 1s this season. He likes York and will be happier back over this trip after being run off his feet in the July Cup.

FUJAIRA PRINCE was impressive when winning a hot Royal Ascot handicap by almost four lengths and looks just the type for an Ebor.

He doesn’t take a lot of racing and trainer Roger Varian has wisely had him wrapped up in cotton wool with this red-hot contest in mind.

He ran a cracker when second on his only other visit to York last season so he has no issues with the track. You need a Group-class horse for this race and he fits the bill.

Ghostwatch was third in a French Listed race last time on the back of a close second in a big handicap at Newmarket over this sort of trip. He has every chance from just 3lb higher in the weights.

Pablo Escobarr won nicely at Goodwood last month and shapes as though this longer distance will bring improvement for William Haggas. He is another for the shortlist.

Joseph O’Brien sends over Pondus who didn’t fire when well backed for a Leopardstown Group 3. He was an easy Listed winner before that and shapes like he’ll improve for this test of stamina.

True Self is another Irish raider to note. Willie Mullins’ mare didn’t get the run of the race at Cork last time but is a Group 3 winner at best and warrants plenty of respect.

Deja loved the mud when winning the Old Newton Cup at Haydock and can’t be ruled out despite a 7lb walk up the weights.

BEN MACDUI showed fantastic pace when just touched off in the Molecomb Stakes at Glorious Goodwood. He was nabbed late on and should take another step forward on just his third start.

Politics looked a nice prospect when taking a Sandown maiden 15 days ago. He should improve on that under Oisin Murphy.

Acklam Express could be named the winner a long way out at the same meeting when taking a nursery by more than four lengths. That’s impressive over this minimum distance and he deserves this big hike in grade.

Coming the other way is Lauded who wasn’t disgraced in the Group 2 Richmond Stakes. That was over six furlongs and he showed enough early zip to cope with this shorter distance.

Winter Power has been busy and didn’t handle Goodwood when slammed by Acklam Express. He had five lengths in hand when winning on handicap debut at Redcar and could bounce back.

Blackberry has landed two cosy wins and should take a step forward on this major hike in class.
