9-1-1 Lone Star series finale promo

This month’s season finale of 9-1-1 Lone Star could conclude with the tragic death of two beloved members of the hit Fox show’s family.

During the fourth season of the first responder drama, firefighter captain Owen Strand (played by Rob Lowe) was paid a visit by his brother Robert, portrayed by Lowe’s real-life brother Chad Lowe.

However, their reunion came with the devastating revelation that Robert has Huntington’s disease, a hereditary condition that damages nerve cells in the brain causing them to stop working properly.

As a result, it may have been passed from his parents to Owen and his son TK (Ronen Rubinstein) as well.

Thankfully, Owen tested negative for the Huntington’s gene in the latest episode, A House Divided, meaning TK is also in the clear.

But sadly, they may only have a few weeks left before they’re forced to say goodbye to Robert.

Robert confirmed he’ll be bringing his wife and kids to TK’s upcoming wedding to Carlos Reyes (Rafael L Silva), which is bound to end the series on an emotional note.

He also revealed he plans to stay in Texas while his family returns home so Owen can help him die.

Owen now has an impossible decision to make; does he refuse and try to get his brother more help, or will he be brave enough to fulfil his request and say goodbye for good?

Meanwhile, Judd Ryder (Jim Parrack) may also have to prepare himself for news of equally tragic proportions.

After reuniting with his son Wyatt Harris (Jackson Pace) only last season, a biking accident left him with brain swelling and multiple broken vertebrae.

Showrunner Tim Minear revealed he initially planned a different outcome for the end of season four, before landing on a gut-wrenching outcome for Judd and Wyatt’s reunion.

“It’s one of those things where, as a writer, you realise you set up the ending at the beginning,” he told Entertainment Weekly.

“We could have gone down the road of Wyatt joining another firehouse, but we did that with [Chimney’s brother] Albert on 9-1-1 and I didn’t want to repeat myself.

“So I realised that this is a way to service the Wyatt story that I’ve started, and to solve the dilemma between Tommy and Judd.”

He then teased: “The way it changes everything for this particular group of characters is super rich and incredibly moving.”

For now, Minear is keeping the result of Wyatt’s surgery under wraps, so fans will have to tune in over the coming weeks to find out if they’ll be subjected to two huge losses in the same episode.

9-1-1 Lone Star season 4 concludes Tuesday, May 16 on Fox in the USA. A UK release date is yet to be announced.
