The Great British Bake Off winner Nancy Birtwhistle has claimed contestants of the show have to submit 'nine weeks' worth of work' before ever entering the tent.

The baker, who won the fifth series of Bake Off in 2014, appeared on This Morning on Wednesday alongside other previous winners of the hit baking show, Edd Kimber and Peter Sawkins.

During a conversation with This Morning hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, the trio discussed last night's premiere of the new Channel 4 series.

At the end of the segment, they were also asked to pick out their early favourites in this year's line-up of bakers.

When asked to name her favourite, Nancy said: "I just felt sorry for Tom because I think as a viewer you don't appreciate that the person who goes out first has also submitted nine weeks' worth of work.

She added: "Nobody wants to go first."
