A BELOVED BBC Breakfast star has disappeared without explanation, forcing a familiar face to step in.

Viewers of the flagship morning programme tuned in this week to discover Carol Kirkwood was missing.

The forecaster, 61, typically hosts the weather bulletins on BBC Breakfast from Monday to Thursday.

But on Monday's show, the star was nowhere to be seen, instead being replaced by Matt Taylor.

In Tuesday's edition, fans of Matt were delighted to see the seasoned Beeb weather presenter standing in.

No explanation has been given for Carol's absence from the show.
