Fans got happily surprised with a new episode of Black Mirror in December, but they have been waiting for Season 5 news. Netflix has officially announced when the show will premiere and dropped a trailer.

When will the show release new episodes and who is starring in it? Here is everything you need to know.

Season 5 will premiere on June 5

Netflix has announced that the new season will drop on Wednesday, June 5. It’s sort of odd for new episodes to be released on a Wednesday, perhaps the day has a secret meaning. There will also only be three episodes.

This probably isn’t that surprising since the show previously released the interactive episode, “Bandersnatch.” It was already revealed that filming the episode with so many alternate endings pushed back the fifth season.

“We knew going into it that it would be difficult and challenging and more complicated than a normal film that we would do. Even then, we underestimated,” Black Mirror creator and writer told The Hollywood Reporter. “As the story expanded, I like to say that the story got longer and it got wider. So the whole thing started expanding a bit like an inflatable life raft in a small room.”

A trailer has also dropped giving a hint of what fans will see. It also shows who will be starring in the show.

Anthony Mackie, Miley Cyrus, Topher Grace and more will be starring in it

The trailer shows that there will be more technology-related stories to tell. It’s unknown how they will all intersect.

Andrew Scott seems to be a man pushed to the edge by everyone on their phones. He is seen sitting alone in a car with a gun and police are trying to get him to surrender.

Anthony Mackie seems to be playing an unhappy husband, who is tempted to step outside of his marriage with the help of social media. Miley Cyrus looks to be playing some kind of pop star. Angourie Rice is seen playing a girl who doesn’t have many friends but is getting support from a little robot doll.

This won’t be Cyrus’ first appearance in Black Mirror

The singer will be in Season 5, but it’s not her first time in the show. She was actually in the “Bandersnatch” episode.

Cyrus was asked about the rumor that she was cast in the show in an interview with Howard Stern. She responded with “If you guess it, then I will shake my head ‘yes,’ or ‘no.’” The radio host said that she confirmed that she is in it.

It’s unknown how this appearance will be connected to “Bandersnatch.” However, it’s already hinted that all the episodes are taking place in the same universe.

The episode “Black Museum” shows a museum that has objects from multiple episodes on display. In the episode, “Bandersnatch” there is also a poster that shows the robot from “Metalhead” on a wall.

Fans will have to wait a little longer to see what other Easter Eggs are in store. It looks like the new season will stick to the show’s past themes of technology and human flaws.
