Simon Cowell has a secret nickname that is out of this world — Darth Vader.

Daily Star can reveal pals reckon the Britain's Got Talent mogul, 62, is just like the iconic Star Wars villain famed for being ruthless.

Amanda Holden, 51, is one of his closest friends and she thinks it fits perfectly.

She said: “I’ve called him Darth Vader all his life!”

Simon is currently wearing a wrist brace after injuring himself in a bike accident and Amanda thinks it means he looks even more like Darth Vader than ever.

She said: “It’s like a Star Wars lightsaber. I wonder whether it illuminates in the dark when he waves his arm around!

“He looks like Darth Vader, so now he’s got the lightsaber to go with the nickname!”

Simon and Amanda have worked together on Britain’s Got Talent for more than 15 years.

The new series is a big hit with ratings topping seven million viewers.

By the end of the first two audition episodes, two judges had picked out their golden buzzer acts, who get a one-way ticket straight to the live semi-finals.

Amanda picked American singer Loren Allred for hers, after the US-import sang Never Enough from the Greatest Showman soundtrack.

She said: "I am absolutely shaking. I can't believe I've had this incredible opportunity to give you your moment to shine, because this is it."

Fans were left unimpressed though, as Loren has a background in the music industry – and song the same song on the movie's actual soundtrack.

A Britain's Got Talent spokesperson defended the move though, saying: "Whilst most people will have heard the infamous Greatest Showman track, Loren is not a household name, and she deserves her spot on the BGT stage.

"We hope that such articles will not count against somebody who is well-deserving of this opportunity. It's fantastic that Loren is now able to step out and stand in her own right to be the face, and not just the voice, of one of the most well-known tracks of all time."

Meanwhile, Simon chose to send comedian Axel Blake straight through to the semi-finals with his golden buzzer.

Axel joked about the Tube, the pandemic and contactless payment which left Simon seriously impressed.

David Walliams was also keen on the act, describing him as "brilliantly funny and original".
