Tracy (played by Kate Ford) has done a complete character U-turn of late on Coronation Street, having gone from a feisty vixen to a more family orientated woman. However, next week’s episodes of the ITV soap could see this nice persona suddenly drop as her husband Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) asks her to make a big sacrifice to save his critically ill son, Oliver Battersby (Emmanuel and Jeremiah Cheetham). As her dreams of the perfect family begin to crumble, she could turn to her former lover Rob (Marc Baylis) for comfort, but could he make a proposition which will see her bid farewell to Weatherfield for good?

Viewers are currently aware Oliver has been diagnosed with the life-limiting illness of mitochondrial disease and the only thing keeping him alive at the moment is a life-support machine.

Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) is not willing to let her son go without a fight, however, and has been speaking with doctors in Germany about an experimental treatment.

Though it comes at a cost as the family are having to find £500,000 to pay for the medical experts to visit the UK and carry out the assessment.

Upcoming scenes will see her partner Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) suggest selling his shares in the Underworld Factory, which leads Steve to tell his wife to sell up shop with the florist and taxi cab service.

It’s not yet known what she will decide but if Tracy rejects the idea and is shunned by her husband, she could make contact with Rob to seek some company.

The last time Carla Connor’s (Alison King) brother was seen on screen was back in 2017, when he teamed up with Tracy after escaping from prison where he was serving a sentence for killing Tina McIntyre (Michelle Keegan).

He made the flit when he was being transferred to a new prison after handing over intel of a notorious gang to the police.

Tracy was a prime target for the villain as they had been engaged in a relationship prior to his incarceration for murder.

However, reunited after several years apart, his feelings soon came back and when he was recaptured, the pair made love before bidding farewell to one another.

I’d love a Rob return

There was clearly still a spark between them but since then, the mother-of-one has settled with Steve and built up a perfect family set-up.

Though Oliver’s diagnosis has put them back on the rocks and having only cheated on him back in January with a woman, Tracy could be set to do it all over again.

Posting on a Digital Spy forum, a viewer wrote of a comeback for the stalwart’s former lover: “I’d love a Rob return.

“I don’t know how they’d get around the whole murderer thing but to be honest I’d even be happy if it was just an escape from prison storyline.

“That would be better than nothing. There’s a lot they could with that now, especially as both Carla and Peter [Barlow] are back on the show and are together.”

“I would say that there’s Tracy too, but I think we’re probably meant to believe she’s completely forgotten Rob and that Steve is her soulmate,” they continued.

The marital bliss could have all been a red-herring to throw viewers off the scent Rob was going to make a return.

Given he has already broken free from prison, the latest plot could see Tracy turn the tables on him by getting her hands on whatever money he has sat in a bank.

Knowing how ruthless he was a businessman, the mother-of-one could try to help Steve out to help pay for Oliver’s treatment without selling up shop.

To do this, she could agree to private consultations with Rob, given how much of a risk he is for escaping.

Tracy could then manipulate him with her charm and have an affair with him, before taking all his money.

However, realising her marriage is probably on its last legs as she watches her husband become closer to Leanne over their shared grief, she could make a big decision about her future on the cobbles.

Will the soap stalwart pack her bags and begin a simple life away from Weatherfield to escape the demons of her past?

Could she keep a bit of Rob’s money for herself to pay for her expenses?

Coronation Street continues Monday at 7:30pm on ITV.
