Coronation Street’s Ted was tragically killed off in a devastating twist involving Emma Brooker and Faye Windass.

Ted was killed off in Soapland after Faye accidentally hit him with her car during a driving lesson with a tipsy Emma – but he seemed physically okay after the girls returned him to his flat.

Returning later to drop off a packet of ginger biscuits to replace the ones he lost during the accident, Emma and Faye were stunned to find him dead in his armchair.

But though the elderly gentleman, portrayed by Duggie Brown, was only in the soap for a few scenes and didn’t seem to have any prior connections with other characters, fans are sure they’ve rumbled a link between him and Curtis Delamere.

Curtis famously fled the street after Emma Brooker ditched him on their wedding day, believing that he’d stolen money meant for her little brother’s charity fund.

However, she soon realised the truth and tried her best to find her fiancé.

But when the pair were finally reunited, it was to find that Curtis was seeing a cardiac specialist at the hospital, having relapsed in his battle against factitious disorder.

Now, however, he could be back – as Ted’s grandson.

Ted is confirmed to have a grandson, and although he isn’t named Curtis, he has a track record of lying about his family.

So there could definitely be a link between the pair.

One keen fan took to Facebook to share their theory, writing: “Curtis ends up being Ted’s grandson and when Emma and Faye’s plan falls apart, Curtis comes to the rescue by saying that she was [with him] because she’s his fiancée? And they end up getting back together!”

Someone else echoed: “Bets on Ted’s grandson being Curtis – oh the sweet irony #Corrie."

As another posted: “Is Curtis going to be the grandson they keep mentioning?”

“I have a feeling Ted is related to Curtis? Maybe his grandad?” a fourth fan tweeted.

If Curtis does have a link to Ted, it stands to reason he could fight for Emma's freedom and lie about what happened – perhaps hinting he was there at the time of his death.

Or could he seal the girls' fate to exact his own revenge on Emma for ditching him? It all remains to be seen on the coveted cobbles.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:30pm on ITV.
