Coronation Street viewers have been shaken by news of a scandalous affair in Weatherfield – and they aren't the only ones.
Actor Alan Halsall, who has been at the heart of the cobbles for the past two decades, admitted he was astonished when he learned Tyrone Dobbs' eye would start to wander.
The mild-mannered mechanic has been a family man in recent years, cooped up in number nine Coronation Street with long-term partner Fiz Brown, their daughters, and his granny Evelyn.
However, the arrival of Romanian car expert Alina Pop on the street has thrown a spanner in the works, with cupid's arrow heading in Tyrone's direction.
Discussing the sordid affair with Daily Star and assorted press, Alan, 38, recalled his surprise when he first laid eyes on the springtime scripts.
Describing how he felt, he said he was, "shocked, I'll be honest".
"It did come as a bit of a surprise to me, for sure," Alan added.
Alan explained his main gripe was his brilliant working relationship with Jenny McAlpine, who has played Fiz for the past 20 years on the soap.
He said: "Then you start to think of your own selfish things as an actor.
"Myself and Jenny have known each other for 20 years and honestly, there's not a day goes by that I don't love working with that woman. She's the most professional, just a joy to work with on a day-to-day basis.
"So you start thinking, 'Oh I don't want that to go, and I love working with Jenny every day and I love our stories,' so that was my own thing as an actor."
While he was disappointed his scenes with Jenny would be cut down, Alan was thrilled to find himself at the centre of such a divisive storyline.
He went on: "But as a character, it's fantastic. We want to be part of big stories. This is a big story. As I say, it was a big twist to me, I hope it's a big twist for the audience.
"I hope people are spitting out their cup of tea at half seven on a Monday night and saying, 'Oh what's he doing now!'
"And I'm sure I'll get clipped around the ear in Tesco a few times for it. These are the stories we want to be involved with and I'm glad to be a part of it."
Tyrone and Fiz's on-off romance first sparked when they were teens, only to fall for each other once again later in life.
Famously, Fiz lured Tyrone away from his fiancee Maria Sutherland in the early noughties, before they went on to wed other characters.
They reconnected in 2012 when Fiz helped Tyrone to escape his violent relationship with police officer Kirsty Soames, exposing her as an abuser.

Unfortunately, the Alina fling isn't Tyrone's first infidelity – back in 2018, he slept with Gemma Winter in a fit of passion, with Fiz eventually forgiving him.
While the one-night-stand with Gemma was a matter of lust, it seems Tyrone has fallen hard for budding beautician Alina, hinting his relationship with Fiz may not recover.
Is it curtains for one of Corrie's most cherished couples?
