Disney Plus has announced it is expanding its UK productions with three new shows under development. The announcement comes as plans to continue building their European production. When will the shows land on Disney Plus and what are they?
Disney Plus has been making a big push in creating original content since its launch last year.
The platform, which brings together the content of Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, National Geographic and Stars, is hoping to increase its European content share.
The new UK productions will fall under the Disney and Stars banners, one Disney production and two Stars productions, respectively.
What are the new UK productions for Disney Plus?
The Ballad of Renegade Nell
The Ballad of Renegade Nell falls under the Disney brand, promising to be a swashbuckling adventure series set in the 18th century.
The series will be written by Sally Wainwright, known for Gentleman Jack and Happy Valley and produced by Lookout Point which developed Gentleman Jack as well.
The series will centre around Nell Jackson who is framed for murder and forced into a life of highway robbery with her orphaned sisters Roxanne and George.

The first of the two Stars branded productions, Culprits is a dark and funny heist series from filmmaker J Blakeson best known for I Care A Lot and The Disappearance of Alice Creed.
The series will follow what happens after a heist when the crew behind it have gone their separate ways but are being targeted by a killer one by one.
Stephen Garrett, known for The Night Manager, and Morenike Williams, known for Killing Eve are producing the project.
Star-branded Extraordinary is being created by new talent Emma Moran.
It will be produced by Sally Woodward Gentle and Lee Morris, both behind Killing Eve and Charles Dawson, behind Darkness Awaits.
The show will follow Jen, a young, self-aware woman who lives in a world where everyone has superpowers except her.
This announcement follows the news from earlier in the week of Disney Plus’s first UK unscripted series Save Our Squad, focusing on David Beckham going back to the pitches he grew up around.
These recent UK commissions build on the 10 previously announced European projects from February 2021.
This is also on top of Disney’s larger plans for the platform, recently announcing over 100 new shows, including 10 Star Wars and 10 Marvel shows.
Disney Plus is available in the UK for £7.99 per month or £79.90 annually.
