Vinny Dingle (played by Bradley Johnson) has been struggling ever since his wife Liv Flaherty (Isobel Steele) was killed in October. The Emmerdale character started gambling as a way of coping, but his mother Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley) is concerned it will turn into an addiction. In upcoming scenes, Vinny’s problems get worse as he is left battered and bruised.
Mandy has been unable to get through to Vinny since Liv was crushed by a caravan during the soap’s 50th-anniversary storyline.
She asked Jimmy King (Nick Miles) to speak with Vinny in desperation and he eventually opened up to him during a game of snap.
Vinny started playing poker with villagers and soon found himself cashing in as he discovered he was skilled at the game.
While the poker was keeping his mind off his problems, Mandy started fearing he might end up following in the footsteps of his father Paul Ashdale (Reece Dinsdale) who was a gambling addict.
In upcoming episodes, Mandy finds her son has been badly beaten up.
She believes her worst fears about the people Vinny has been gambling with may have come true.
An achy Vinny apologises to Mandy about his recent behaviour as he has been lashing out at her.
A concerned Mandy offers her son a room at her home while he recovers from his injuries.
Vinny agrees to move back in with his mother at this vulnerable time, but she suggests he rents out his apartment rather than sell it.
Will Vinny actually agree with an overbearing Mandy, and how long is he planning on living with her?
Does he know who is responsible for attacking him?
Perhaps the assault will stop Vinny from getting involved with gambling altogether.
However, could something more sinister be brewing underneath the surface?
Did Mandy pay someone to attack her son in a bid to deter him from gambling?
Vinny would be bound to cut ties with her if this was the case.
Vinny’s dad Paul abandoned him when he was four years old and Mandy has tried to give him the best life possible.
Paul made his Emmerdale debut in 2020 and the actor who plays him said at the time: “He knows where Mandy’s family lived so he’s tracked her down, and has no agenda other than wanting to see Vinny again and to make amends for leaving.
“What you see is what you get with Paul, he is back to make up for all those lost years. His intention is to be a good dad,” he told Digital Spy.
“Mandy simply doesn’t want Paul anywhere near Vinny,” Lisa added. “She thought he’d gone forever.”
Emmerdale airs on weekdays at 7.30pm on ITV.
