FRIDAY the 13th has haunted screens for the past four decades, with few characters more synonymous with the slasher genre than Jason Voorhees.

The 1980 fan favourite flick revolved around Jason who terrorised Camp Crystal Lake, killing anyone that stood in his way.

Jason himself only plays a minor role in the first movie, albeit one that's impossible to forget, with him rising up from the lake as a reanimated corpse.

In the first outing, Ari Lehman, now 56, was the first actor to play the role of Jason and also appeared in the original as a child.

It was Lehman's only second professional acting role ever, with his first being Manny's Orphans just two years prior in 1978.

The role of Jason has become a legendary mantle in cinema, with many talented performers donning the hockey mask.

But only Ari can claim to be the one that started the legacy of this iconic horror villain.

Today, the 56-year-old continues to keep his roots in the horror genre close to his heart.

He recently played Doctor Stratton in the 2019 horror flick The Lurker, which heavily paid homage to classic slasher films.

Lehman has also starred in other horror films, such as the 2017 film Rock Paper Dead, in which he plays a character who is rather conspicuously named Jason.
