Friends' Jennifer Aniston dubs The Morning Show '20 years of therapy'

She has been the golden girl of America’s TV screens for over two decades but behind close doors Jennifer Aniston admits she has been having breakdowns.

The Friends star says she wouldn’t even admit the distress to herself and it has only taken her gritty TV role in ‘The Morning Show’ to acknowledge what she has been through.

Jen – whose marriages and divorces have captivated news headlines for years – says  her Emmy nominated role as TV anchor Alex Levy enduring her co-anchors MeToo claims has been ‘therapy’ for her real life.

‘That show was 20 years of therapy wrapped into 10 episodes,’ confessed the 51-year-old A-lister.

‘There were times when I would read a scene and feel like a whole manhole cover was taken off my back.’

Jen said the whole experience was ‘cathartic’ personally and shared her own private hell further saying it was ‘also interesting for me to look at how I always have tried to normalise being fine and “everything’s great, you know, this is all normal,” and then there are moments when you have your private breakdown…’

Aniston – who co-stars with Reese Witherspoon in the Apple TV show – admitted the screen role made her face her problems.

‘To actually look at it from an actor brain observing it and acknowledging it, I had to look at it as opposed to pretending it doesn’t exist.’

She said Levy’s fame is comparable to her own when she has just wanted to hide away.

‘There have been moments — not to that level of hysteria — but moments of “I don’t want to f***ing go here.” “I don’t want to walk out onto the carpet,” “I don’t want to be seen,”,’ she said.

‘“I don’t want to be looked at and everyone’s going to be talking about me and judging me”… that’s real.

‘I just loved being able to walk into it and lean into it and not be ashamed of it, but actually just… it was like… Ooooooooooh!’

Jennifer is now up for a lead actress gong at the upcoming Emmy awards, having previously taken home an SAG award for her performance in the series.

She is going up against Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh, Zendaya for her portrayal of Rue in Euphoria, Olivia Colman’s Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown, and Laura Linney for playing Wendy Byrde in Ozark.
