After making it through to week 10 of Strictly Come Dancing, Bake Off star John Whaite and his professional partner Johannes Radebe featured on the spin-off series, It Takes Two. After revealing his true thoughts about musical week, host Janette Manara was left shocked and forced to cut off the contestant to move onto the next question.

John and Johannes were the latest duo to join presenter Janette Manara on Wednesday’s episode of It Takes Two.

During the interview, they gave viewers an insight into the preparation taken for their rehearsals and performance.

John was one of eight celebrities to hit the dancefloor for musical week, in an attempt to impress the judges and take home Strictly’s dazzling glitterball trophy.

John and Johannes performed the Viennese Waltz to Chim Chim Cher-ee from Mary Poppins and scored a total of 32.

Speaking on their performance, John shared: “I think we did well, Jo was injured earlier in the week and we had fewer hours, we only had really a day and a half last week to learn our choreo.”

He added: “But I think we did a really good job of it, what the judges said about me not quite giving it the character, I get that because I was too busy thinking about the steps last week.”

Janette interjected: “Especially if you had such little time to rehearse, you’ve gotta put your thinking cap on.”

After the performance, Judges were left unimpressed with John’s take on the Viennese Waltz and gave him some mixed feedback.

Shirley Ballas noticed he was comfortable when leading the routine and highlighted some footwork errors.

While dancer turned judge, Anton Du Beke claimed the performance was “too safe” for the duo and compared it to their past Paso Doble – which stole the show.

The final score of 32 was in fact the lowest they’ve received on the leaderboard, with each judge awarding them an eight.

Having confirmed not enough rehearsal time played a negative role, John made a shocking confession, which led to Janette’s jaw-dropping.

He confessed: “I’m not a fan of Mary, I don’t like Mary Poppins,” despite performing to a song from its production.

Before he could explain why Janette who was stunned and in disbelief cut him off to ask: “Do you not? We are no longer friends.”

The Bake Off champion then tried to save himself and claimed: “I like it now.”

However, Janette wasn’t having it and joked: “John you’ve said it already it’s too late, we’re moving on to the next question because I can’t deal with that.”

As week 10 approaches, John and Johannes are set to perform their take on the Argentine Tango to The 5th by David Garrett.

The next episode is also expected to see the return of straight-talking judge Craig-Revel Horwood who was missing from the panel after contracting Covid-19.

He was replaced by Broadway legend Cynthia Erivo, who was loved by viewers.

Viewers will have to tune in to see if John will return back in full form and completely wow the judges.

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 6.45pm on BBC One, while It Takes Two airs weekdays at 6.30pm on BBC Two.
